In mathematics, we often use the symbol $\propto$ to indicate that two quantities are proportional. In LaTeX, the phrase "is proportional to" can be represented using the command \propto
.
Here’s an example of using the \propto
command:
$$
x \propto y
$$
$$ x \propto y $$
This represents the statement "x is proportional to y".
It’s also possible to specify the constant of proportionality using the following notation: "x is proportional to y with a proportionality constant k", which can be represented in LaTeX as follows:
$$
x \propto y \quad \text{with a proportionality constant } k
$$
$$ x \propto y \quad \text{with a proportionality constant } k $$
Note that to use the \propto
command in LaTeX, you don’t need any additional packages.
It’s as simple as that!
